SupportMAX Neuro
Regular price $79.50 Save $-79.50Support yourself to the MAX.
When it comes to what we look for at VitaKea, Strom has hit it right on the bullseye with this anti-stress and nerve growth formula. It is truly a valuable support stack for all living - great to get your body and mind back on a healthy track.
Well studied, well-supported ingredients. Targetted and synergistic combinations that consider how to get their very best usefulness. And finally, clinically relevant dosages, and well, in this case… it’s POTENT dosages!
1000mg Choline - Though not absorbed into the brain as efficiently as some other choline sources, Strom have made up for this with a top-notch dose. Choline is used in the brain most significantly for the production of the essential neurotransmitter ‘Acetylcholine’, which improves cognition through its critical role in neuron function. Additionally, cholines has value to a range of other organs and tissues, which this form is very well suited for.
800mg KSM66 Ashwagandha - KSM-66 is the king of Ashwagandha extracts! It has an incredible number of clinical studies behind it, and 22 of those even being of a clinical “Gold Standard”. With this extract you can be absolutely sure of the quality, and relevance of clinical research to your applications. Ashwagandha is shown to be an excellent modulator of cortisol and testosterone, decreasing feelings of stress, mood volatility and all-round improving feelings of calm and well-being. At VitaKea, this herb is our No.1 recommended, which has value for just about every human.
500mg Phosphatidylserine (PS) - A key nutrient and fat-soluble amino acid for the building of cell walls and various cognitive processes, phosphatidylserine is another “excellent for everyone” sort of ingredient. It has also been shown to have cortisol decreasing effects, complimenting the Ashwagandha well.
500mg Lions Mane - A popular fungi of late, this magnificent mushroom has been shown to increase Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). These brothers in the neurotrophic factor family have well studied effects in increasing nerve cell growth and repair. BDNF particularly working within the hippocampus improving memory functions, and NGF promoting nerve cell insulation and anti-inflammatory actions. *** CAPSULE FORM HAS DOUBLE DOSE LIONS MANE! (1000mg per serve).
10mg Bioperine - A particularly anti-inflammatory ingredient, Bioperine is a black pepper extract utilised by many well-formulated nootropic stacks to aid the absorption (a bioavailability enhancer) of other nutrients, in this case providing particular value to the other herbal extracts in SupportMAX Neuro. This is one ingredient we are always pleased to see, given the excellent value to consumer it provides.
KEALAD SERVING RECOMMENDATIONS:
Our main suggestion is to use this stack as part of your evening wind-down routine. Particularly with KSM-66 Ashwagandha, we find a calming effect very notable, and at this dose in the stack, it makes for a superb sleep promoter.
Use one serving daily, 1-2 hours before bed.
NOTE: The researched benefits of this stack are mainly demonstrated with consistent use, and so we do highly recommend utilising this daily for at least 3 to 4 weeks.
Cortisol spikes in the morning are actually very valuable to assist you with feelings to “get-up-and-go”, so we don’t recommend this for a morning routine. However, if you are finding yourself overstressed or anxious, half serve dosages may be of value throughout the day. This situation is more of a “test to see what works for you”, even trying lower doses if you feel sleepy.
As always, if you want to try before you buy - feel free to request a sample with any order! And any further questions, just shoot me an email at thomas@vitakea.co.nz.

THE VERY BEST HERBAL INGREDIENTS FOR STRESS, MOOD, AND SLEEP SUPPORT
Each ingredient that is selected for inclusion is supported not only by solid research and scientific evidence, but also a strong body and background of evidence-based traditional use dating back thousands of years.
In the realm of stress relief, anxiety support, and even depression support, many herbs have been explored, both scientifically and experimentally. This includes botanicals selected not only for how they are shown to possibly support symptom relief, but also for how they help strengthen the body to better handle and adapt to stress, which further reduces anxiety, stress, and sleep problems twofold.
None of these herbal ingredients are proven or approved to replace doctor-approved or mainstream therapies for mood disorders.
Instead, think of these ingredients as an extra shield or even additional nutrient support to help one’s flexibility, durability, and stamina when facing challenges to mental wellness and mood.
* DO NOT CONSUME IF USING PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION, AND ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFOREHAND.

MORE ON THE 7 INGREDIENTS OF TRANQUIL MIND
Ashwagandha
Nothing effective in the world of stress relief and hormone balance could ever skip out on ashwagandha. A powerful root that is surprisingly closely related to tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers, it was an important part of the ancient healing practices in Ayurveda from India.
A nourishing tonic and adaptogen in one, ashwagandha is widely known for benefits to reproductive, endocrine, and thyroid health.* But, over the long term, this boost also reaps amazing results for stress and mental health, since these states of wellness can often be governed by the wild world of hormones and neurotransmitters.*
Griffonia Simplifolia
One of nature’s richest sources of natural 5-HTP, this plant from Africa contains phytochemicals that closely mimic a very important neurotransmitter in our bodies that eventually gets transformed into serotonin. In fact, most 5-HTP supplements contain extracts directly from this plant.
Serotonin is vital for regulated mood, good sleep, and normal low anxiety levels. As such, Griffonia has been used extensively in traditional medicine—and studied closely by scientific researchers—for its ability to promote better sleep and reduce anxiety naturally.*
Reishi Spores (Cracked Shell)
This medicinal mushroom provides an array of beneficial support. Reishi can support Anxiety and Depression; Breast cancer patients reported reduced anxiety and depression, as well as increased quality of life when they received reishi along with their cancer treatment. The group not receiving reishi did not report these effects.
Chinese and Japanese herbalists traditionally recommend it for insomnia due to its sleep-promoting ability *
L-Theanine
The world favorite tea plant is known for many health benefits that can be found in green, white, black, and oolong teas, which all originate from the same plant. Beyond boosting energy and metabolism, tea contains l-theanine, an amino acid known to help with anxiety and stress.*
Though it doesn’t work quite like 5-HTP, l-theanine as an amino acid and neurotransmitter can work similar to it. On the one hand, it blocks certain receptors that may feed into or fuel stress and anxiety; and on yet another hand, it stimulates the production of stress-relieving neurotransmitters in the brain, such as GABA.*
L-Tryptophan
Another amino acid in our lineup ensures that the depression, anxiety, or stress-addled brain gets the optimum natural neurotransmitter support it could possibly get.* In the case of l-tryptophan, this chemical is found in good amounts in certain foods and promotes mild stress relief.
In higher supplement amounts, however, l-tryptophan could have even more marked effects on mood and stress.* Our body needs this amino acid, but it can’t produce it on its own and might be especially scarce in those facing mood disorders. Along with 5-HTP and l-theanine, this is an herbal ingredient we include because we don’t feel it should be overlooked.
Passionflower
A beautiful and evocative flower could be one of the best natural remedies for depression discovered in the herbal world thus far. Though it’s nowhere near being considered a replacement for antidepressants, studies nevertheless show that this blooming vine could have great promise one day.
What’s more, passionflower is supported by both evidence-based traditional use as well as research for benefits to insomnia and anxiety, too.* As an added plus, it may have perks for digestion, especially digestion problems related to nervousness and anxiety.*
Schisandra
This bright red berry from Asia is wrapped in legends and folklore about its miraculous health benefits. Though it doesn’t come close to the stories about its powers, this adaptogen herb holds its own well in the realm of research—especially for protection against stress and anxiety.*
Studies also show that schisandra could have very useful properties for relieving depression.* The berry tonic appears to have an impact on GABA, serotonin, and dopamine in beneficial ways that help balance mental health and function. And not only that—the botanical may improve sleep over the long term, as well as reduce the chances of neurological disorders.*

L-Theanine in Tea
Ever wondered why sipping a cup of tea provides such a smooth uplifting feel without the hassle of jitters? That’s the L-theanine! Tea leaves contain a proportionally high amount of this sweet little amino acid, easily enough to handle the small amount of caffeine pumping its way in.
The presence of L-theanine in Tea leaves was actually discovered by Japanese researchers in 1949. Interestingly, when they correlated tea's that were considered "high quality", these were also the tea's that had a high L-theanine content!
But with our modern day workplace, coffee has quickly established itself as the beverage of choice for its greater caffeine content. Coffee which, unfortunately, lacks the supportive L-theanine component.
More on L-Theanine itself
L-theanine crosses the blood-brain barrier, and has the ability to modulate inhibitory neurotransmitters, selective serotonin, and dopamine to bring about anxiolytic and calming effects. L-theanine can also improve cognition and selective attention, perhaps due to changes in alpha brain wave activity. Finally, its ability to selectively bind to glutamate receptors may confer neuroprotective effects as well.
In addition to promoting relaxation, L-theanine has been shown to stabilize cognitive function affected by stress hormones. More specifically, L-theanine decreases levels of corticosterone, which when elevated can inhibit spatial learning and memory formation. Other researchers have shown that, in people with anxiety, L-theanine improved attention span and reaction time. Taken with caffeine, L-theanine improved visual information processing and accuracy when moving between tasks.
Given its ability to encourage attention and focus, it may come as a surprise that L-theanine has also been found to improve time to sleep as well as quality of sleep. Instead of acting as a sedative, L-theanine works to promote better rest by reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation.
F.A.Q.
Q: Will I build a tolerance to L-Theanine?
Not at all! L-theanine is not habit-forming and it does not lead to tolerance and dependence even when used over long periods of time.
Q: What about adverse reactions?
L-Theanine is generally well tolerated, and there are no published reports of serious adverse side effects or interactions with other natural products or conventional prescription medications.

Why We Sleep
Regular price $54.90 Save $-54.90The New Science of Sleep and Dreams
“Why We Sleep is an important and fascinating book…Walker taught me a lot about this basic activity that every person on Earth needs. I suspect his book will do the same for you.” —Bill Gates
A New York Times bestseller and international sensation, this “stimulating and important book” (Financial Times) is a fascinating dive into the purpose and power of slumber.
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life—eating, drinking, and reproducing—the purpose of sleep remained elusive.
An explosion of scientific discoveries in the last twenty years has shed new light on this fundamental aspect of our lives. Now, preeminent neuroscientist and sleep expert Matthew Walker gives us a new understanding of the vital importance of sleep and dreaming. Within the brain, sleep enriches our ability to learn, memorize, and make logical decisions. It recalibrates our emotions, restocks our immune system, fine-tunes our metabolism, and regulates our appetite. Dreaming mollifies painful memories and creates a virtual reality space in which the brain melds past and present knowledge to inspire creativity.
In Why We Sleep, Walker answers important questions about:
- How do caffeine and alcohol affect sleep?
- What really happens during REM sleep?
- Why do our sleep patterns change across a lifetime?
- How do common sleep aids affect us and can they do long-term damage?
Charting cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs, and synthesizing decades of research and clinical practice, Walker explains how we can harness sleep to improve learning, mood, and energy levels; regulate hormones; prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes; slow the effects of aging; increase longevity; enhance the education and lifespan of our children, and boost the efficiency, success, and productivity of our businesses. Clear-eyed, fascinating, and accessible, Why We Sleep is a crucial and illuminating book.
